Heathfield Upper School Curriculum

Heathfield Independent Upper School offers a broad and balanced curriculum in which the core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science are strongly promoted in all year groups. French is introduced in year three of the lower school as a first foreign language. Later on, Spanish is introduced and may be continued to GCSE for those interested in studying other languages.

Lessons in all subjects are well structured and varied which maintains interest, enthusiasm and motivation. Pupils are encouraged to make good use of the school's library and computers to develop their knowledge and understanding. As classes are so small, Heathfield pupils make rapid progress in academic studies, which leaves plenty of time to expand your child's physical and creative talents. All children participate in Physical Education and Games instruction and have regular music, drama and art lessons.

In the upper school, there are annual exams and Common Entrance examinations are taken at the end of the year 8. These help pupils to feel prepared when at 16 they take GCSEs. Heathfield has consistently been one of the top performing schools for GCSE results in the Worcestershire. However, just because we take your child's education seriously, it does not mean that we do not make it fun.

Your son or daughter will not merge into the crowd at Heathfield. We are small enough for everybody to get to know each other really well and for everybody to participate in all facets of school life.

Personal Social Health & Economic education (PSHE) is explored in the classroom, via extra-curricular activities and developed through the school's relationship with the local community. PSHE education is a planned, developmental programme of learning designed to help learners develop the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to manage their lives, now and in the future.
